About
This course is designed as a practical introduction to the Prevent duty for education staff. It focuses on awareness, identification, and appropriate safeguarding action, rather than specialist or Designated Safeguarding Lead–level procedures. Prevent is often misunderstood. For many education staff, it can feel abstract, intimidating, or disconnected from day-to-day safeguarding practice. This course cuts through that uncertainty by grounding Prevent firmly in what it is: early help and protection for children and young people. You’ll explore key, actionable topics including: What Prevent Is (and Isn’t): Understanding Prevent as a safeguarding duty, not surveillance or punishment. Extremism and Radicalisation: How radicalisation can develop and why children may be vulnerable. Recognising Signs and Indicators: Identifying behavioural, emotional, and online patterns that may indicate vulnerability — without making assumptions. Safeguarding in Practice: What to do if you are concerned, professional boundaries, and the role of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). The Channel Process: A clear, non-technical overview of how concerns are assessed and how support is provided. Learning Objectives By the end of this course, learners will be able to: ✅ Recognise what Prevent is and why it exists. ✅ Recognise early signs that a child or young person may be vulnerable to radicalisation. ✅ Recognise what action to take if you have concern. ✅ Recognise the Channel Process. Please note that the learning material will be presented as a downloadable ppsx. file (PowerPoint Show).
