Why Us?
Deep Roots: The Science of Learning
At Tyfu, we don’t design for eyes; we design for brains.

Led by educators, not designers
Most professional development is built on the assumption that if you show someone information, they will learn it. We know better. True growth requires a foundation in instructional design that respects how the human mind actually processes, stores, and retrieves information.
Our "Deep Roots" philosophy is built on three core scientific pillars.
Respecting Cognitive Load
The Principle: The human brain has a limited "bandwidth" for new information. When eLearning is cluttered with decorative graphics, unskippable narrators, and complex navigation, the brain becomes overwhelmed—this is Cognitive Overload.
The Tyfu Approach: We apply Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) to every slide and session.
-
Eliminating Extraneous Load: We strip away every "flashy" animation or stock photo that doesn't directly support the learning goal.
-
Managing Intrinsic Load: We break complex topics into "chunks" that match the learner's existing knowledge base.
-
Maximising Germane Load: We use the mental space we've saved to focus on deep processing and schema-building.
Scaffolding for Success
The Principle: Learning isn't a single event; it’s a journey from 'knowing' to 'doing.' Without proper support, learners often struggle to apply theory to their specific classroom environment.
The Tyfu Approach: We use Instructional Scaffolding to bridge the gap between abstract concepts and Period 1 reality.
-
Dual Coding: We pair verbal explanations with specific, simplified visuals. This creates two mental pathways for the information, making it twice as likely to be remembered.
-
Retrieval Practice: Instead of a single quiz at the end, we embed low-stakes 'check-ins' throughout our modules. This strengthens the neural pathways to the information, ensuring it's there when you need it most.
The Art of Andragogy
The Principle: Adult learners, especially teachers, bring a wealth of experience to the table. They need learning to be self-directed, relevant, and immediately applicable.
The Tyfu Approach: We don't talk down to our users. We build our content using Andragogical principles:
-
Immediate Relevancy: We focus on 'The Why.' Every module starts with a clear link to classroom impact or career progression.
-
Professional Agency: We respect your expertise. Our courses are designed to be navigated by professionals who know what they need and when they need it.
-
Problem-Centred Design: We move away from abstract theory and toward scenario-based learning, allowing you to test your skills in safe, simulated environments.
